The State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) grant is a pilot project administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration and authorized by the Federal Small Business Jobs Act of 2010. The grant is intended to help create jobs by increasing the number of small businesses exporting to foreign countries and to raise the value of exports for small businesses currently exporting.
This is the second year Oklahoma participates in the STEP program. The first year proved to be successful as the Oklahoma Department of Commerce assisted several companies and facilitated participation in seven different trade shows.
Funding for the second year will help companies offset the cost to participate in international trade shows and will allow them to promote their Oklahoma made products on a global scale.
“Oklahoma products and services are second to none, we need to support our small businesses expose their technology to the global market.” said Erika Lucas, Deputy Director, Global Branding & Engagement, Oklahoma Department of Commerce. “We understand the complexity of competing globally and we are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to Oklahoma companies”,
Eligible small businesses interested in the STEP program must use funding towards developing or enhancing their international marketing efforts by participating in international trade shows related to their industry. To be considered for the Oklahoma STEP Fund, all applicants are required to submit an application and supporting documentation. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce will begin taking applications from Oklahoma small businesses starting late January 2013.
