Members of our team toured GRDA facilities, including their new combined cycle natural gas generation facility yesterday. The 495 MW turbine, manufactured by Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, is the most efficient combined cycle facility in the western hemisphere and is located at GRDA’s Grand River Energy Center in Chouteau. The facility uses Oklahoma natural gas and was transported from Savannah, GA to Chouteau via the inland waterway on a barge for most of its journey. Without the inland waterway, the unit would have been much more expensive to transport.
In addition to GRDA’s Grand River Energy Center in Chouteau, the Oklahoma Department of Commerce also toured GRDA’s Pensacola Dam. The power generated by GRDA is supplied to MidAmerica Industrial Park and 15 communities in Oklahoma. The power produced by GRDA provides the employers in each of those communities with a competitive advantage supplying them with low cost, reliable power.
