The Oklahoma Department of Commerce (Commerce) met with the Stillwater Chamber about an upcoming industrial park project and to learn more about their workforce.
Stillwater, the midpoint between Tulsa and OKC, is a hub for R&D and home to three academic and educational institutions including Oklahoma State University. It’s a community where half the population holds a degree and Meridian Technology Center assists companies like ASCO Aerospace USA, Ditch Witch, and Frontier Electronic Systems with specialized training.
A new program is the result of increasing workforce demands in the energy and power sector within the Meridian district and across the nation. High school students and adults throughout the Meridian district will be able to get plugged into the school’s new Energy and Power program this fall.
“The way the world generates and consumes energy is constantly changing and the Energy and Power program will explore how to move technology forward into new areas of innovation,” said DeAnna Little, Director of Instruction of Trade and Industry programs at Meridian.
The Stillwater Chamber has also been working on increasing employment opportunities with a new Stillwater Industrial Park that will offer adjustable lots for prospects seeking relocation and expansion. Construction work will begin in a few weeks, and lots will be shovel ready for prospects by the Fall of 2018.
Stillwater also has a great quality of life happening with their new McKnight Center for the Performing Arts at Oklahoma State University, OSU Botanic Gardens, and various local museums. Outdoors people will be at home in Stillwater with five area lakes offering various activities from boating, water-skiing and fishing to camping. For the sports enthusiasts, enjoy intercollegiate sports with Oklahoma State University’s athletic teams which have 51 NCAA team national championships to their name.
Everyone can enjoy Stillwater’s variety of unique restaurants including the world famous Eskimo Joe’s where Commerce got to talk more about business over sweet pepper bacon burgers, fries and salads.
