Commerce Announces New Chief of Staff / General Counsel

Josh McGoldrick recently joined the Oklahoma Department of Commerce (Commerce) as the new Chief of Staff and General Counsel.

McGoldrick was born and raised in the Moore area. He has a Law Degree from Oklahoma City University and a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Oklahoma. After completing law school, he began work at the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s office, moving in 2009 to work for District Attorney Greg Mashburn in District 21 serving Cleveland, McClain and Garvin counties. He eventually managed the McClain county office. In 2012, he accepted the position of Staff Attorney for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, supporting the agency as legal advisor and also providing legal guidance to various law enforcement agencies both rural and metropolitan throughout the State. During the last 15 years, he has represented the State of Oklahoma in approximately 14 different Oklahoma Counties, both large and small.

“I have worked with county commissioners, police departments and other local government officials, state, county and municipal,” said McGoldrick. “I have seen the passion these public servants have for their communities and look forward to continuing to support them and the people of Oklahoma through my role at the Department.”

McGoldrick said he was drawn to this new position at Commerce as a continuation of his goal to make Oklahoma better.

“We are uniquely positioned at Commerce to truly impact the present and future of Oklahoma; providing opportunities that will ensure Oklahoma is a great place for our children to grow and raise their own families.”

“Josh’s experience and dedication to helping the people of Oklahoma made him an excellent fit for this role,” said Brent Kisling, Executive Director, Commerce. “We are excited to have him join the team and know he will provide invaluable knowledge and insight into our endeavors to improve the lives of Oklahomans.”

McGoldrick is enthusiastic about the shared vision of Secretary of Commerce and Workforce, Sean Kouplen, and Kisling.

“I believe in order for Oklahoma to reach our goal of being a top 10 state in job growth, we must aggressively work with our Oklahoma based companies, while also working to bring in opportunities from outside of the state. My priority as Chief of Staff is to support the talented individuals at Commerce in pursuing this goal by ensuring we remain focused on our mission while also holding each other accountable for setting goals and driving results,” said McGoldrick. “As General Counsel, I will support Commerce in effectively implementing programs that comply with state statutes and ethics guidelines to ensure our programs and recommendations meet the high standard of Oklahomans.”
